.: Setting up your computer for Alarm King Remote Viewing :.

Setting up your internet explorer to be able to use the remote viewing software may seem complicated or daunting, but it is infact quite easy whan you know what to look for.

The Alarm King digital video recording systems use a tool called ActiveX. What is ActiveX? "ActiveX is a loosely defined set of technologies developed by Microsoft for sharing information among different applications. ActiveX is an outgrowth of two other Microsoft technologies called OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) and COM (Component Object Model). As a moniker, ActiveX can be very confusing because it applies to a whole set of COM-based technologies. Most people, however, think only of ActiveX controls, which represent a specific way of implementing ActiveX technologies." (quote from webopedia).

In order to set up your browser to download the ActiveX control that allows the live stream of data from the digital video recorder, the following steps must be taken:

  • First, click the "Tools" menu, and click "Internet Options..."
  • Next, switch to the "Security" tab, and click "Custom Level"
  • Find the section pertaining to ActiveX, and set the following choices to PROMPT, which will cause the computer to ask you if you would like to install such things as our ActiveX tool. The sections you want to change are: "Download signed ActiveX controls", "Download unsigned ActiveX controls", and "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe". Check the following diagram for visual instructions.

If these instructions fail to help you solve your remote viewing issue, please feel free to contact us at 951-222-7070 and ask to speak with our technical support staff.
